Nationwide Container Lifting Services
Container Lifting in Purfleet, Tilbury and Nationwide
Here at KBC Logistics, we are a Purfleet-based transport company that provides supply chain solutions to businesses across the UK, with links to every major port.
From our inception in 2008, we have striven to make container transport seamless, giving our customers complete faith in our haulage services.
Implementing correct container lifting procedures is a crucial element of the cargo industry, necessary for the safe lifting of containers on and off ships, vehicles and into depots for storage. Containers come in all shapes and sizes, though most commonly are 20-foot and 40-foot in length. Therefore, specialist mechanical equipment is required to prevent damage to the container, the cargo and most importantly, any personnel. We are fully qualified to lift shipping containers, whether empty or fully loaded and have in-house equipment, including a container side lifter at our disposal.
How We Lift Containers
There are many different methods and apparatus involved in lifting containers, depending on the environment and type of containers being moved. Moving containers invariably involves cranes, forklifts, side loaders, straps, chains, slings, lugs and cables.
We typically lift containers from the bottom corner lug holes using slings attached to a spreader beam hang. If using forks, they generally extend the entire width of the container. Using remotely operated equipment where possible reduces the number of workers that need to be in the immediate vicinity of the container during handling and can mitigate the risk of any accidents.
As a business, we stay at the forefront of innovation and technology so we can always meet the challenges of logistics in the modern world and best serve our clients. The successful movement of goods is essential to ensure our client’s interests and we are proud to offer a 24-hour service that keeps supply chains functioning.
Things to Consider
When it comes to container lifting, there are several different factors to consider before attempting to move any cargo:
- The size of the container
- Whether they have appropriate lug holes in the corners to attach lifting equipment
- The weight of the load
- If there are any height restrictions for lifting
- Any other limitations that might affect the crane capacity
We have learned from experience that preparation is key, which is why we familiarise ourselves with the type of containers we will be working with, ensuring we arrive on-site with the correct lifting equipment and preventing any delays in getting your cargo to where it needs to be.
